My father was Charles E. Undercoffer (LTC RET). He enlisted in May 1929 at 17 years of age in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was assigned to the 107th Cavalry in Cincinnati finally rising to Capt. He was troop commander of Troop K 107th when they went to Europe and then became the Recon troop Commander. After the war he was assigned with the Constabulary. I have a wonderful album with loads of pictures of his horse cav days and even some programs of 107th polo programs when they played in the old hall in Cincinnati. I have his officer's saddle, the seat of his enlisted saddle, campaign hat I wore as a Drill Sgt. at Ft. Benning and his dress and field boots. Recieving my spurs in Baghdad from !st Cav Div, I wear his officer spurs playing polo. I go to Cincinnati once in awhile, and wonder if the old 107th is still in Cincinnat. If so, do they have a show case?

I am from Wellington, OH, and joined the 107th Cavalry. We were a mounted horse unit at Fort Riley, Kansas. I was later deployed to the north coast of California - and stationed in Santa Rosa. We had horses as well as mechanized units. I later went to England, where I was a cryptographer - riding in a tank. I have lived in Santa Rosa ever since returning from the war.
Thank you for sharing this site, and memories and photos. We appreciate it.

Thank you so much for this site. I am just now getting to talk to my great uncle about his time in the 107th thru France and into Germany. He was 4 days away from a discharge when Pearl Harbor was attacked; 4 days became 4 years.
He was already 29 in '41. And 30+ by the time he went to combat. It is a privilege to sit and hear a 93 year old man tell me stories of things he did for his brothers - and freedom - when he was my age.

My mother forwarded the link. She recently sent in a lot of pictures of my grandfather, Frank Cornwell. Papa never spoke about the war and I know very little about his time there. The stories he did tell were all the funny one like jumping into a latrine to avoid enimy fire. I am sure he was a very smelly mess. I also know that he was amoung the first troups to liberate Dachau. My grandfather passed away in 1989 and I never got to ask him the tough questions. This website is truely wonderful. I shares great stories about great men. I feel closer to my grandfather and for that i am truely appreciative.

Hi Mike.
Thanks for adding a few more photos of Dad.(Troop C) I wasn't even aware that you had some of them.
The one of Dad walking the tightrope, was captioned, "off the record". It made me think of Wally Schweitzer(also C Troop), on horseback, and sailing over an army jeep! I'm pretty sure that was "off the record", also!
Anyway, thanks again, for keeping such a fine website, and maybe I'll see everyone at the reunion later this year.

My Grandfather, John N. Lerner, served with the 107th during WWII in B troop. THough he often forgets my name (he is bad with that) he can sit for hours and talk about the great times he had with 107th and how fond his memories are. I love to sit and hear all about the men he proudly served with and even about his horses. He always thought himself lucky to have been able to serve in one of the final cavalry units that actually had horses. I have many pictures at my disposal that my grandfather lets me see whenever I please. If anyone would like me to send out some of my favorites, I would be glad to. Thanks for this wonderful tribute to the wonderful men of the 107th. Nathan Tharp

Michael,
I just found this website, what a fitting tribute to our fathers’ service and life. THANK YOU!
Dad was in the outfit, troop C as well as my Uncle Harry. Harry Schlueter is still alive and kicking. He lost his wife (Rosie) several years ago and hasn’t been the same.
George Yostel’s widow is my neighbor and she has much memorabilia. She spoke to me last year about parting with it. I have contacted the Troop B Armory here in Lebanon Ohio and they may be interested. If there is a more fitting location, please let me know.
That roster is getting shorter, Fiddlers Green is too full. How sad.
I have some pictures if you would like them. Please let me know. Also, is there a reunion planned for 2006?

Great Website. I will pass it on to my friends. I joined HHT 2nd Sq., 107th ACR in Sept.of 1973, after my discharge from Regular Army active duty. I spent 20 years in the 107th and was proud to wear the 107th patch. It was a great 20 years and went to fast. I served with a lot of good officers and NCO's. I served with Maj. (Ret) Jim Garfied for two years as his chemical NCO. Retired out in Oct. 1993 as the Smoke/Decon Plt. Sgt from the 107th Chemical CO..
